Borussia’s are set to play their second training-camp friendly on Friday night, with the Foals keen to get back to winning ways against Standard Liege.
The training camp in Jerez is slowly drawing to a close, with the Foals returning home to Mönchengladbach on Saturday. The conditions in Spain continue to provide a perfect backdrop to the tough sessions, and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky yet again on Thursday. There were two sessions on the agenda for the final time in Jerez and the focus has long moved on from the disappointing 2-1 friendly defeat on Monday against Magdeburg. “We have put a line under it,” said assistant coach Dirk Bremser. “The boys have been training very well since, just as we had hoped they would. I’m confident that we will see the results of that tomorrow against Standard Liege.”
Hazard back in team training
After a light session in Jerez on Friday morning, the team will make the almost 120 kilometre journey south to the Estadio Municipal La Línea de la Concepción next to the Gibraltarian border, where Borussia will take on Belgian top-flight side Standard Liege from 17:00 CET. “The winter preparations are very short, so it’s a crucial friendly that we absolutely need to perform better in than we did against Magdeburg. We want to end the training camp on a positive note,” said midfielder Tobias Strobl. After recovering from their respective injuries, Christoph Kramer, Julio Villalba and Lars Stindl should all get their first minutes of 2019. Thorgan Hazard is also expected to feature after shaking off an ankle problem.
