Borussia fans have voted for Yann Sommer as their player of the month for January. In the poll presented by “Cichon Personalmanagement”, the Swiss goalkeeper won 65% of the vote, with Patrick Herrmann in second place.
‘Sommer’ days have returned for the second month in a row in Mönchengladbach, as Borussia’s goalkeeper has won the player of the month accolade for January. Sommer won 65% of the vote to beat Patrick Hermann into second place, and win the first player of the month title of 2019.
The Swiss keeper’s repeated success is more than deserved, with Sommer winning the man-of-the-match poll after the 1-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen with a huge 83% of the vote. He made numerous saves and had an enormous calming presence on the pitch during the match, and has continued his top form in 2019 since. “I’m very happy that I was able to make some good saves and keep the ball out of my net. It was clearly a good way for me to start 2019,” said Sommer, who was then able to build on this result with a 2-0 win over Augsburg. Conceding just 18 times, Gladbach’s No. 1 is joint level with RB Leipzig’s Péter Gulácsi for fewest goals conceded this season.
