Borussia has extended 21-year-old goalkeeper Moritz Nicolas’ contract until 2023.
The U21 international has been with the club since 2015 and has made 74 appearances in the Regionalliga with the U23 side, in addition to making the first-team matchday squad on five occasions. Nicolas has picked up one cap so far for the German U21 team, as well as three caps at U20 and U19 level.
The 21 year old joined Gladbach just over four years ago from Rot-Weiss Essen and made ten appearances for the U23 team and 16 for the U19s in his first season, but suffered bad luck with injuries in the 2016/17 season. The goalkeeper tore a thumb ligament a few months before suffering a lower arm fracture, which caused him another spell on the sidelines. As a result, Nicolas only made twelve appearances for the U23 team that season, going on to make 26 last season. Over the current campaign, the goalkeeper has featured another 26 times for the youth team.
