Michaël Cuisance and the French U20 national team will begin their U20 World Cup campaign on Saturday 24th May in Poland. Their first opponents in the group stage will be Saudi Arabia (kickoff 18:00 CEST).
The favourite roles ahead of the opening round are clearly divided – whilst France lifted the U20 title in 2013 and the French first team are also World Champions, opponents Saudi Arabia are outsiders for qualification in the tournament, which begins on Thursday. Therefore, only a victory will be acceptable for the French as they begin their campaign on Saturday at 18:00 CEST in Gdynia. In Michaël Cuisance, a Foal could be present from the start. To date, the Borussia midfielder has picked up four caps for the U20s side, and made his third appearance for the U19 team last year in the European Championship semi final. For the U19s, Cuisance scored once and laid on a further three goals for his teammates, staking his claim for a place in this year’s World Cup squad at U20 level.
Final on 15th June
France will then have two more group games before they can think about the latter stages. On Tuesday 28th May, Cuisance and co. will face Panama before closing the group against Mali on Friday 31st May (both kickoff times 18:00 CEST). Overall, 24 nations will take part in the tournament, hoping to reach the final in Lodz on 15th June.
