Borussia Mönchengladbach travelled from Guangzhou in South China to the east coast today. The team were greeted by many fans at the airport of the city of 24 million people.
At exactly midday, the Gladbach tea, departed Guangzhou airport and around two hours later, landed in Shanghai. At Shanghai Hongqiao airport, the team were greeted by frantic fans. Around 150 local fans were able to meet the players at the airport and get autographs and pictures. The fans were visibly happy to see the players arrive in Shanghai.
A passionate Patrick Hermann fan, who was lucky enough to receive his shirt during yesterday’s friendly, travelled from Guangzhou to Shanghai prior to the team in order to be waiting at the airport to see Herrmann again. Florian Neuhaus and Christoph Kramer are both popular players in China after their travels with the Germany national team and Germany U21s. With both players fully surrounded, Neuhaus said: “I would have never expected such an interest in myself!”
After a 40 minute journey to the Grand Kempinski Hotel Pudong, the team will meet a German consul in the evening. On Friday and Saturday, there will be further PR, sponsoring and marketing activities. “You don’t always get the opportunity to go to China. We want to enjoy the last two days in Shanghai,” said assistant coach Frank Geideck.
