Borussia have signed goalkeeper Max Grün from 2. Bundesliga side SV Darmstadt 98. Gladbach keeper Moritz Nicolas has meanwhile been loaned out to newly-promoted side Union Berlin.
Die Fohlen have signed goalkeeper Max Grün from SV Darmstadt 98. The 32-year-old, who has made 26 Bundesliga appearances and played 64 times in the second tier, has signed a contract until June 2020, and replaces Moritz Nicolas in the Borussia goalkeeping ranks. The 21-year-old Foal has gone on a two-year loan to newly-promoted Union Berlin. At the same time however, Nicolas’ contract at Borussia has been extended until June 2023.
“It was both Moritz‘s and our wish that he could get more of a chance of some game time at another club, and we’re convinced that this will be the case at Union,” said Sporting Director Max Eberl. “He’s a part of our future plans in the goalkeeping position, which is why we’ve extended his contact and given ourselves the option to call him back after a year.”
U21 national team player Moritz Nicolas has been at Gladbach since 2015, making 75 appearances for the Borussia U23s and 5 appearances for the U18s. He’s been capped once at U21 level for the Germany national team, and made three further appearances for the U20s and U19s.
Grün played for Bayern Munich at youth level, making five appearances in the third and fourth divisions before moving to SpVgg Greuther Fürth. He made 89 appearances for Fürth, with 17 coming in the Bundesliga. In July 2013 he moved to VfL Wolfsburg, playing nine Bundesliga games and three Pokal fixtures. The 32-year-old’s latest club was SV Darmstadt.
