Yann Sommer is in the running for Borussia’s “Player of the Season”, going up against Florian Neuhaus, Alassane Plea, Jonas Hofmann, Thorgan Hazard, Patrick Herrmann and Josip Drmic.
Yann Sommer was a continual presence throughout the past Bundesliga season. The Gladbach keeper completed all 34 games, playing every minute of the season - a feat only matched by Waldemar Anton from Hannover, Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich and Ron-Robert Zieler from Stuttgart. The 30-year-old had a new sense of responsibility this season as well, his fifth with Borussia, as Lars Stindl was absent for a large portion of the season, meaning the keeper wore the captain’s armband 15 times.
13 clean sheets
In total, the Swiss kept 13 clean sheets in the season just gone, a number only beaten by Peter Gulacsi from RB Leipzig, who kept 15. On average, Sommer conceded just 1.24 goals per game. Only Manuel Neuer and Gulacsi had better averages, with 0.92 and 0.82 respectively. Borussia’s fans honoured Sommer’s impressive achievements this campaign by voting him “Player of the Month” four times (December, January, February and April).
If you think that Yann Sommer is Borussia's Player of the Season, then vote for him on the FohlenApp now. Florian Neuhaus, Alassane Plea, Jonas Hofmann, Thorgan Hazard, Patrick Herrmann and Josip Drmic are also in the running to win the award.
