Josip Drmic is in the running for Borussia’s ‘Player of the Season’, going up against Florian Neuhaus, Alassane Plea, Jonas Hofmann, Thorgan Hazard, Patrick Herrmann and Yann Sommer.
Similar to the 2017/18 season, Josip Drmic’s quality shone through towards the end of the season. On matchday 32, the Swiss national team striker came on in the 82nd minute and saved the Foals by scoring, ensuring an important point in the race for Europe against TSG Hoffenheim. A week later, he earned the trust of head coach Dieter Hecking to start the game, and repaid him immediately by scoring the first goal of the game against FC Nürnberg. The game ended in a 4-0 victory.
A safe player
The central striker was also very safe on the ball, with 53 of his attempted 59 passes finding a team mate (90%). Only Nico Elvedi, whose pass completion rate was 95%, was higher. Not only did the striker’s performances towards the end of the season help ensure a place in the Europe League for Borussia, but meant that he won the Player of the Month award in May.
