Borussia have signed young Australian-Italian talent Jacob Italiano from A-League side Perth Glory. The attacking midfielder will play for the Foals’ U23s side next season in the Regionalliga West.
“Jacob Italiano is a huge talent and we have closely followed his progress for a while. We’re delighted he has now joined the club,” said Borussia sporting director Max Eberl. Italino will initially join the club’s U23s team and he has already been training with the team ahead of next season’s Regionalliga West campaign. The Australian-Italian wants to progress through the ranks to play for the senior Borussia team in the near future. “It is very exciting and I’m thrilled to be there. Borussia is a huge club and they always give young players a chance. I’m glad the new adventure can now begin,” says the midfielder.
Italiano has previously progressed through the Perth Glory academy in his native Australia. He made his A-League debut on matchday seven of the 2017/18 season in a 2-0 defeat against Melbourne Victory. At the time, Italiano was only 16 years old and he became the second youngest debutant in A-League history. The midfielder went on to make 17 more appearances that season and made two more appearances this season as well as a cup appearance.
