Captain Ibrahima Traoré and Guinea have been knocked out of the Africa Cup of Nations following a 3-0 round of sixteen defeat to Algeria on Sunday evening.
Opponents Algeria went into Sunday’s last 16 clash as the favourites to progress in Cairo. However, Ibrahima Traoré was unable to lead Guinea to an upset as they fell to a 3-0 defeat. The Borussia winger played the full match and once again captained the side.
Guinea had more attempts on goal than Algeria but it was the Desert Warriors who looked the more dangerous side over the course of the 90 minutes. Algeria took a deserved lead through Youcef Belaili in the 24th minute and increased the pressure after half-time. Riyad Mahrez (57’) and Adam Ounas (82’) also got on the scoresheet as Algeria ran out clear winners.
Traoré didn’t miss a minute of Guinea’s Africa Cup of Nations adventure, playing all 90 minutes in each group stage game as well as Sunday’s defeat. The Foal also played in both pre-tournament friendlies.
