The Foals began their week long training camp on Sunday with a more relaxed plan after Saturday’s tournament in Heimstetten.
After the Schauinsland-Reisen Cup in Heimstetten, the team stayed overnight in the H4 Hotel in Munich before heading directly to the training ground in Rottach-Egern, where they were greeted by hundreds of fans upon arrival and took part in a relaxed 60 minute session.
Two birthdays to celebrate
The session started with some running before birthday celebrations were in order for Jonas Hofmann who turned 27, as well as team official Rolf Hülswitt, who turned 78. The team then split up, with Yann Sommer, Tobias Sippel, Tobias Strobl, Denis Zakaria and Andreas Poulsen working on preventative training whilst Michael Lang worked individually with fitness coach Quirin Löppert. The rest of the team played in 5-on-2 situations before Florian Neuhaus joined Lang and Löppert towards the end.
Stefan Lainer, who suffered a shin injury a few days ago and required stitches, followed the session from the sideline. The new signing is expected to return to training on Monday. Lars Stindl, Breel Embolo and Julio Villalba also missed out the session, and will divide their time between the Medical Park and the training pitch as they work on their comebacks. Jordan Beyer missed out due to muscular problems, whilst Ibrahima Traoré (Africa Cup with Guinea) will link up with the team after the training camp.
Two sessions on Monday
This year marks the eighth time Gladbach have held a training camp in Tegernsee. As in the years 2012 to 2018, the team hotel will again be the Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt, where the team will return to after Sunday’s mid-day training. “I can’t imagine any nicer training camp, I always enjoy coming here and am really looking forward to it,” said Cristoph Kramer on arrival. The team have a chance to rest on Sunday afternoon, and are scheduled to train at 10:15 CEST and 16:30 CEST on Monday.
