New signing Ramy Bensebaini spoke about his transfer to Borussia and his first impressions of the club in a press conference. The Algerian on…
...his reasons for the move: I spoke with Marco Rose and Max Eberl beforehand and they both explained to me what Borussia stands for and how they intend to progress in the future, and it really suits me. Furthermore, Borussia is a huge club in Germany, and one where I would like to take the next step in my career.
…his time in France: I spent three wonderful years at Rennes, and even won the French cup in my last season there. However, it was time for a new challenge in a new league. I spoke with lots of people about Borussia and only heard great things, which really convinced me to join. I am now really happy to be here.
…his first impressions: I already know Marcus Thuram and Alassane Plea from the French league, and have today met all the other players as well as all the coaching staff. My first impressions were very positive; I was given a very warm welcome.
…his current physical condition: I was back out on the field today for the first time, but still didn’t train properly. I played in the final of the African Cup of Nations with the Algerian national team on the 19th June and went on holiday afterwards, before returning to start my pre-season in Rennes. I had a short break and I made sure that I kept fit while I was there, so I shouldn’t be too far behind on my training.
…his many French-speaking team-mates: Of course it’s a great advantage for me at the beginning that almost half the team can speak French. That will make it a lot easier for me to integrate into the side. Nevertheless, I would soon like to improve my German and English so that I can speak to the other players as well.
…his strengths on the pitch: I’m very comfortable on the ball and enjoy playing it out from the back. However, as a full-back, you are of course primarily responsible for your defensive actions. I enjoy defending my own goal and hope that I will be a difficult player to come up against in the Bundesliga.
