Ten Borussia players were called up to their respective national teams. Amongst others, Stefan Lainer will travel with and Austria for their important EURO qualifiers.


National coach Joachim Löw has called up Borussia defender Matthias Ginter to the German national team again. The DFB team will play against Argentina in Dortmund on Wednesday 9th October (20:45 CEST), before their qualifier on Sunday 13th October (20:45 CEST) in Tallinn, Estonia. "We are on course in qualifying for the European Championship. Of course, we want to get the three points in Estonia, "said Löw, whose side convincingly won the first leg 8-0 in June. Germany leads Group C after five matches with twelve points in front of Northern Ireland. Estonia lie bottom of the table with no points.


Yann Sommer, Nico Elvedi, Denis Zakaria and Breel Embolo are the four Borussia players in the Swiss "Nati" for their two European Championship qualifiers on Saturday 12th October (18:00 CEST) in Denmark and on Tuesday 15th October (20:45 CEST) in Geneva against Ireland. Switzerland are on course to get out of qualifying group D. To date, the team have played four games in which they have collected a total of eight points. They are now in third place behind their opponents Ireland (11 points) and Denmark (9 points), both of whom have already played five games. The first leg against Denmark ended 3-3, and in Ireland 1-1.


For the Austrian national team, right-back Stefan Lainer will play some important games in the European Championship qualifier: On Thursday 10th October (20:45 CEST), Franco Foda’s side will play at the Ernst-Happel Stadium in Vienna against Israel. On Sunday 13th October (20:45 CEST), the Austrians will go to Ljubljana, Slovenia. "We know we can qualify if we win these games," said Foda. In Group G Austria sit third with ten points after six games - including a 4-2 loss in the first leg in Israel and a 1-0 win over Slovenia. Slovenia is just ahead of Austria with eleven points and Israel sit fifth with eight points.


László Bénes, who missed Borussia’s last match with a hamstring injury, has been called up to the Slovak national squad. The Slovaks will play their European Championship qualifier against Wales on Thursday 10th October (20:45 CEST) in Trnava, before they face Paraguay on Sunday 13th October (20:45 CEST) in a friendly in Bratislava. In European Championship qualifying Group E, Bénes and Co. are in second place behind Croatia (10 points) with nine points after five games.


Borussia left-back Ramy Bensebaini is in the provisional squad for the Algerian national team. They will play on Tuesday 15th October (21:00 CEST), in Lille a match against Colombia.


Andreas Poulsen will be playing two EURO U21 qualifiers in Hungary and Slovenia with Denmark U21s: On Thursday 10th October (18:00 CEST), the Danes will play Northern Ireland in Aalborg. Four days later, on Monday 14th October (18:00 CEST), they will go to Finland. In their first qualifier, the Danes defeated Romania 2-1.


Jordan Beyer, who has been missing for the Foals recently because of a ligament strain in his knee, has been called up to German U20 squad. The team will play Poland at the Edmund Plambeck Stadium in Norderstedt on Thursday 10th October (18:00 CEST) before their game in the Tissot Arena three days later on Sunday 13th October (15:00 CEST) in Biel against hosts Switzerland. "With Jordan Beyer we have a player who could already gain valuable experience in the U21," says DFB coach Manuel Baum on the Borussia man. "We will work closely with Stefan Kuntz and try to help him get more playing time for the U20s."
