After our last minute draw in Rome we asked some of the Borussia camp for their reactions.
Lars Stindl: We had a really good start to the game and had several good chances in the opening phases, including hitting the crossbar. Unfortunately we conceded against the run of play. But we did not give up and chased an equaliser for most of the game. We invested a lot and were rewarded for it, even if it was a bit lucky in the end. I am very happy that I scored the penalty. Of course, after a long time away, the goal released a lot of emotions for me.
Yann Sommer: At the weekend we didn’t get a legitimate penalty, today was the other way around. That’s football. It was pouring with rain the whole match, which made the pitch very waterlogged, and didn’t make things any easier. We played well, especially in the beginning. After half time it was difficult because Roma pressed and tightened the space. We knew we had to get something from the game, so we were very happy to get the draw. There is still everything to play for in the Europa League.
Head coach Marco Rose: Everyone has seen that it was not a handball and therefore no penalty, but that’s football. I think that in the build up to the corner from which they scored there was an offside or maybe a foul. So due to the controversial penalty, the draw is a good result for us. Nevertheless I think we deserved to take a point from Rome. We did a lot in the game, especially in the first half an hour, where we played very well. After that we were a little sloppy. Although we only have two points after three games, there is still everything to play for.
Sporting director Max Eberl: The equaliser was lucky because the decision to award a penalty was not justified. The team were rewarded with a goal after they had invested so much into the previous 95 minutes. We were better in the first half, especially because Italian teams are normally so good at pressing. Unfortunately we did not make it count despite several good chances. In the end, the team showed great spirit. Thanks to the draw we still have the opportunity to spend the winter still in continental competition.
