Marcus Thuram, Yann Sommer and Lars Stindl are all nominated for the November Player of the Month award, presented by Cichon Personalmanagement. Voting for the winner is now open on the FohlenApp.
Borussia have had an eventful month, contesting a total of five matches (two Bundesliga games and three Europa League games). Marcus Thuram, Yann Sommer and Lars Stindl were the standout performers during the month, each taking home a Man of the Match award. Borussia started the month with a Bundesliga away win at Bayer Leverkusen, with Thuram scoring the winning goal in the game, earning him the MOTM award. The Frenchman picked up the award in their following game against AS Roma in the UEFA Europa League as well, once again scoring the winner.
The Foals secured a 3-1 victory over Werder Bremen on Bundesliga Matchday 11. Yann Sommer was the key man for Borussia on the day with a crucial penalty save as well as numerous other impressive stops. The Swiss shot stopper was voted Man of the Match for his performance. The 30-year-old also earned the award in the following week’s 2-0 loss to Union Berlin, making a superb save to deny Marcus Ingvartsen. Marco Rose’s side finished the month with a 1-0 win against Wolfsberger AC in Graz, with Captain Lars Stindl picking up the award after scoring the only goal of the game. Voting for the Player of the Month is now open in the FohlenApp, and will close at midnight on Monday.
Marcus Thuram: The Frenchman was firing on all cylinders in November. It was to no surprise that he was voted by the fans as the Man of the Match in the win over Leverkusen, setting up Oscar Wendt’s opener before scoring the winner shortly before half time. The 22-year-old received 52% of the votes. The winger was also directly involved in both goals in their last minute win against AS Roma in the UEFA Europa League. His well-hit cross was initially turned in by a Roma defender for the opener, before scoring the winning goal in added time (2-1). Denis Zakaria’s cross was flicked on by Alassane Plea for Thuram to eventually nod home. His impressive performance earned him a hefty 78% of the votes.
Yann Sommer: Borussia’s man between the sticks also won the award twice during the month. The vote was neck and neck between Sommer and Patrick Herrmann after their 3-1 win against Werder Bremen; however the 30-year-old came out as the narrow winner with 50% of the votes, compared to Herrmann’s 42%. Sommer played a crucial role in securing the victory for the Foals with a number of impressive stops, including denying Davy Klaassen from the penalty spot. Despite falling to a 2-0 defeat against newly-promoted Union Berlin, the keeper was once again voted as Borussia’s main man. Sommer, who was left with no chance for both of Union’s goals, managed to deny Marcus Ingvartsen from adding insult to injury with a magnificent stop. The Switzerland international racked up 27% of the votes.
Lars Stindl: Borussia’s Captain seems to love European away games. The 31-year-old scored the last-minute equaliser away at AS Roma in their fourth UEFA Europa League group stage match, as well as netting a hattrick in a 4-2 win away at Fiorentina back in 2017. Stindl once again proved to be the match winner in the most recent Europa League game against Wolfsberger AC. The German midfielder volleyed in Oscar Wendt’s magnificent cross to score the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win (60’). The Borussia fans chose the Captain as the standout performer with a 65% majority.
