On Wednesday afternoon, Matthias Ginter and Co. began preparations for the top-of-the-table clash against Bayern Munich on Saturday (15:30 CET).
With last week’s 4-2 victory over Freiburg in the bag, the Borussia players now look ahead to the game against the defending champions Bayern Munich. “We are looking forward to the game,” said goalkeeper Yann Sommer. After notching up five consecutive home wins, Gladbach will welcome Bayern with great confidence. “We need to show what has made us strong in recent weeks against top opponents; be brave in possession, stick to our game plan and to prevent Bayern from executing theirs,” said Christoph Kramer.
Under new coach Hansi Flick, Bayern have been reinvigorated in recent weeks, despite their most recent 2-1 loss to Bayer Leverkusen. “Bayern are currently in high spirits. To conquer them we need a perfect day and for them to have a not so good one,” says Kramer. “We want to make it as difficult as possible for Bayern, but they possess great quality. That’s where the hard part comes in,” adds Matthias Ginter, who has managed to overcome his muscular problems and was on the pitch today with his teammates. With his return, the squad is almost back to full strength. Only Andreas Poulsen (torn ankle ligament) and Torben Müsel (arthroscopic knee surgery) are still out.
