Borussia have loaned out attacker Julio Villalba to Austrian side SCR Altach for half a year.
The 21-year-old striker will head straight off to the side who currently sit eighth in the Austrian Bundesliga. “Julio is a huge talent and we believe in his ability. Unfortunately, as a Paraguayan, he’s not eligible to play for our U23s, so we have decided to loan him out for half a year to Austria, where he can gain experience at the highest level,” said Borussia sporting director Max Eberl.
Villalba made the switch from his hometown club Cerro Portenozu to Borussia at the age of just 17, but he has made just one Bundesliga appearance to this point. The young forward was brought on as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt on 9th September 2017. Since then he’s only been available to play in friendlies. Due to his South American heritage, he is ineligible to play for the U23 side.
The Paraguayan has also had terrible luck with injuries. In his first season he suffered a torn muscle and was forced to sit out the majority of the season. Then during last season, a shoulder injury was quickly followed by a knee ligament tear. The player also missed much of pre-season this year due to another muscle injury.
