Borussia lose their first friendly of the winter training camp in Jerez. Dutch top flight side Heracles Almelo beat the Foals 3-1.
Borussia started the game forcefully and with purpose, rewarding themselves with the lead after 18 minutes through Breel Embolo. At around the midway point of the first half, the Dutch side came into the game more and turned it around completely in the space of five minutes. The scorer of both their goals was Cyriel Dessers in the 33rd and 38th minutes. After the break, Almelo took their very first chance to give themselves a two goal lead as Jeremy Cijntje made it 3-1. The Foals, who had been changed in all eleven positions at half time tried to swing the game back in their favour, but the strenuous training sessions in recent days had taken their toll on Borussia’s attacking game.
In the first half, Tobias Sippel started between the sticks. The back four consisted of Patrick Herrmann, Jordan Beyer, Nico Elvedi and Oscar Wendt. Tobias strobl, Denis Zakaria and Raffael started in midfield while Jonas Hofmann, Alassane Plea and Breel Embolo formed a front three. Marco Rose made eleven changes at half time, bringing in goalkeeper Max Grün, behind a new back four of Stefan Lainer, Matthias Ginter, Tony Jantschke and Fabian Johnson. In midfield, Christoph Kramer, László Bénesand Florian Neuhaus took over command, with Ibrahima Traoré, Marcus Thuram and Lars Stindl up front.
