Dear fans, we regret to inform you that tomorrow's derby against 1. FC Köln (Wednesday, 18:30 CET) will take place behind closed doors following a decision made by the City of Mönchengladbach earlier today.
Tomorrow’s derby against 1. FC Köln at BORUSSIA-PARK will take place behind closed doors, following a decision made by the City of Mönchengladbach. This was made necessary after the state of North Rhine-Westphalia cancelled all events exceeding 1000 people, in light of the recent Coronavirus outbreak. Borussia regrets that the Rhine derby against Köln has to take place without the fans in attendance, but asks for the fans for their understanding.
Mönchengladbach’s mayor Hans Wilhelm Reiners shared his thoughts on the decision: "We deeply regret that it has come to this, but naturally we must follow the recommendations of the state government, who definitely won’t have taken this decision lightly. I am happy at least that the ruling will be enforced throughout NRW, but I can understand the disappointment of the fans that this traditional derby will take place without them.”
