In a pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's game at home against Hertha BSC (15:30 CEST), head coach Marco Rose spoke about the mood ahead of the game and provided an injury update on Marcus Thuram.
Marco Rose on...
…the personnel situation: Nico Elvedi will return after serving a suspension. It’s a bit of a delicate situation for Alassane Plea: he has returned to light training, but hasn’t taken part in team training yet. We will need to see if it’s worth the risk of him playing on Saturday already. Raffael could be an option, and we would be very happy if it works out. However, he has also yet to take part in team training. We’re hoping that he will be able to tomorrow.
…the mood ahead of the game: The excitement isn’t bigger than before any other game. Balancing that excitement with a sense of ease and faith in our own abilities is also very important. We’re feeling optimistic. But, we also know that we’re up against an opponent that will be looking to fight back. We will therefore need a strong performance on Saturday, but I have confidence that the team will be able to deliver.
...training this week: So far it’s been just like every other week. We have a long season behind us and don’t need to work on building up fitness anymore. Instead, it’s about making sure the players are as well-prepared as they could possibly be. We know what we need to do and that our fate is in our hands. The requirements are clear. On Saturday at 15:30 CEST we will find out what path we’ll go down, but we want to determine this direction ourselves.
…Marcus Thuram’s operation: Marcus has undergone surgery and will be in a cast for four weeks. He will wear a support brace after that and can slowly increase his training intensity. If everything goes well, we will do our best to get him back with the team as soon as possible.
