Hannes Wolf: “I desperately wanted to come here”
Hannes Wolf has joined Gladbach on a season-long loan from RB Leipzig.

Borussia’s new signing Hannes Wolf speaks about his decision to move to Gladbach and his goals with the Foals.

Welcome to Borussia, Hannes. You have signed on loan from RB Leipzig for a year. Why did you choose to sign for the Foals?

Hannes Wolf: I’m really happy that I’ve signed here. I desperately wanted to come here and I’m pleased the deal has now been completed. Borussia Mönchengladbach is a great club. Last season went really well and we’ll be playing in the Champions League next season. I’m excited for my time here.

You already know head coach Marco Rose and right back Stefan Lainer from your time in Salzburg. Did that influence your decision?

Hannes Wolf: I worked with Marco Rose for five years in Salzburg, so that was a decisive factor for me. He knows me well and we spoke a lot on the phone. That was a key thing for me. I have already spoken to Stefan Lainer too. I asked him for example where is best to live here. I had a good time with Steve in Salzburg and I hope this continues in Gladbach. Everything else to do with the club made it an easy decision for me too.

Why are you a good fit for Borussia?

Hannes Wolf: I think I will fit the system that Marco Rose plays, as I like to play dynamic and attacking football. I always try to give 100% for the club, the team and the coach in every game.

What are your goals for next season?

Hannes Wolf: My main aim is to stay fit. I have just had a difficult year due to injuries. I would also like to play in the Champions League and contribute to another strong Bundesliga campaign for Borussia. We’ll have to see where we finish in the end.

You will wear the number 11 shirt at Borussia, which previously belonged to Raffael and Marco Reus. Does this number have a special meaning to you?

Hannes Wolf: I wore this number when I won the Youth League with Salzburg. I had number 19 in Leipzig, where things didn’t go so well, so I’m happy to be back with 11 and I’m hoping it’ll bring me some luck.
