#BMGBVB: Match reaction

After the Foals’ 2-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund, we have the reactions of Max Wöber, Marvin Friedrich, Jonas Omlin, Stefan Lainer and the two head coaches Gerardo Seoane and Edin Terzic.

Max Wöber: After going 2-0 down, we got back into the game and showed that we could go toe-to-toe with BVB. At half time, we vowed that we would get at least a point. Sadly though, we didn’t manage to create enough clear-cut chances after the red card. That was disappointing.

Marvin Friedrich: We went 2-0 down very quickly, but fought our way back into the game well afterwards. In the second half, we didn’t manage to create any clear-cut chances apart from Tomáš Čvančara’s header. When you have an extra man for 35 minutes, you simply have to pile the pressure on the opponent’s goal, but we didn’t do that.

Stefan Lainer: Our performance over 90 minutes was okay. We fought and gave our all, but in the end it was the little things that made the difference. Maybe it was also the individual quality that Dortmund have. We can’t blame ourselves for what happened in most of the game. We fought until the end, but we didn’t take enough advantage of the red card enough and should have done more to force an equaliser.

Jonas Omlin: We’re pleased that we got back into the game after going 2-0 down. When they went down to ten just after half time, we of course hoped that we’d be able to pick up at least a point. In the final stages, we had two or three good chances that we didn’t take. If you can’t do that, then you don’t deserve to get a draw here.

Head coach Gerardo Seoane: In the first half, the team did a good job of defending deeply, but were just not alert enough at two moments and therefore conceded two goals. We then got back into the game from a dead ball. The red card completely changed the complexion of the match. In the final half hour, we had one or two good chances and could maybe have scored the equaliser. At that point though, we were just missing some of the energy, intelligence and technical ability that we needed to break through a deep Dortmund block and create more dangerous situations.

Head coach Edin Terzic (Borussia Dortmund): It was an incredibly intense game for us that we could definitely have made easier for ourselves. We started well, went ahead early and even managed to get a second. After that though, we didn’t manage to keep a clean sheet and instead gave Gladbach the chance to get back into the game. The match changed completely after the red card. When you consider that we had to withstand a lot in that game, we defended with a lot of determination in the end. I have to compliment the team for that.
