Florian Neuhaus will have to continue the wait for his Germany debut. The Borussia midfielder was on the bench, but was not brought on in the UEFA Nations League opener against Spain yesterday evening in Stuttgart. Matthias Ginter made his 30th international appearance after being introduced in the 63rd minute for Leroy Sané. Jogi Löw’s side were leading 1-0 following Timo Werner’s opening strike at that point, and looked to have secured the perfect start to their Nations League campaign until Spain equalised in the 96th minute through José Luis Gaya.

Switzerland, with Yann Sommer, Nico Elvedi and Breel Embolo in the starting line-up, suffered a 2-1 defeat in the Ukraine in their opening Nations League encounter. All three Foals played the full 90 minutes while Michael Lang was an unused substitute. The hosts took the lead in the 14th minute through Andrey Yarmolenko before Haris Seferovic equalised just before the break. Alexander Sintschenko scored the winner for Ukraine in the 68th minute. Switzerland and Germany face each other on the second Nations League matchday this Sunday (20:45 CEST).

Meanwhile, Kaan Kurt made his debut for Germany U20s in the 2-1 defeat to Denmark in Norderstedt. The right-back started the game and played 78 minutes as the German youngsters took an early lead through Youssoufa Moukoko in the 3rd minute. After the interval, the Danes turned the game around as two goals in quick succession from Oliver Sörensen and Mohamed Daramy in the 65th and 69th minutes put Denmark ahead. While Kurt will return to Mönchengladbach after this game, Borussia goalkeeper Jan Olschowsky will be hoping to make his debut for Germany U20s in the second match on Sunday (11:00 CEST).
