Porsche becomes Borussia’s youth sponsor

Porsche AG will become the commercial partner of Borussia’s youth academy for the 2020/21 season. The sports car manufacturer will sponsor the Foals’ academy teams and have naming rights for the FohlenStall boarding school. In addition to this, the slogan “Turbo für Talent” (“Turbocharged talent”) will be displayed around the ground at home games throughout the upcoming season.

“Porsche has helped to foster the continual development of children and young people for years, both on and off the pitch, which is an approach that suits us very well. We’re proud to be working with this global brand, which will help us to achieve our goals in the future,” said Stefan Schippers, Borussia’s chief executive. “The commitment of Porsche to our club shows the development of the club in the public perception over recent years, especially with regards to promoting young talent. Together with Porsche, we want to continue expanding our successful academy," added Max Eberl, director of football.

“Borussia Mönchengladbach has traditionally been very successful at nurturing youth talent. A lot of promising young players have made the leap into the professional game at the club,” said Lutz Meschke, vice-chairman of the executive board and chief financial and IT Officer of Porsche AG. “Our agreement will make further development of the club’s academy possible. Our aim is to teach young people values and social skills through sport. In football, children learn at an early age that some problems can only be solved as part of a team. Borussia Mönchengladbach is a partner with similar values in life: team spirit, respect, passion, tolerance, and fairness, which all play a major role in the culture here at Porsche."

Alongside the promotion of young talent, the relationship between sport, education, and free time is also important to both partners. This relationship is something that has been successfully implemented at Gladbach’s academy for several years, which will now be known as the ‘Porsche FohlenStall’. From the start of the season, the logo of the sports car manufacturer will not only be on display around the Foals’ training complex, but also on the outer facade and in the entrance area of the of the boarding school. Also planned are educational courses for the professional training of young talents. The program will include the use of social media, applying for jobs, and child protection as well as the prevention of doping, racism and gambling addiction. In addition, joint projects on sustainability and social responsibility are also being planned.
