Hofmann: "We would have liked to win the two home games"

Jonas Hofmann speaks about the 1-1 draw against VfL Wolfsburg as well as the upcoming UEFA Champions League campaign.

Jonas, are you pleased with the point against VfL Wolfsburg?

Jonas Hofmann: I’m not at all. In the first half we did really well, but after that we didn’t carry on in the same way and lost possession a few times in our own half. We should have protected our late lead even if it wasn’t pretty football for the final ten minutes. That’s not our style, but at the end of the day it’s all about points.

From your point of view, how were the two halves so different?

Hofmann: I don’t have a proper explanation because there are a lot of factors. In the second half, we committed a few mistakes. Then you become less assured and start to drop deeper, which means you lose possession more often, then it’s only a matter of time before you concede.

Five points from four games – how would you sum up the start to the season?

Hofmann: It’s not what we were expecting. We would have liked to win the two home games, and then it would look a lot better. At the end of the day, we’ve taken two points from two home games – that doesn’t make us proud at all and we’ve got to do better.

On Wedensday you player Inter Milan, who have just lost their derby against AC Milan. What are you expecting in Italy?

Hofmann: It doesn’t really matter that they lost the derby. What is important is that they lose again on Wednesday! They definitely have a great team and it will be a big challenge, just like every game in the Champions League, and we will have to give our all. However, I think that we are set up well for the competition, especially when we start to get our injured players back.
