Foals begin training ahead of intense upcoming weeks

Borussia began training with an 80-minute-long session on Tuesday, ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga game against FC Augsburg (15:30 CET).

In the lead-up to Christmas, the Foals will play 10 competitive games in 32 days: six in the Bundesliga, three in the Champions League, and one in the DFB-Pokal. Head coach Marco Rose welcomed his side with an 80-minute session on Tuesday afternoon at BORUSSIA-PARK. The focus of today’s training was on passing and playing around quickly in tight spaces. “The lads were highly-motivated to start the week, and everything looked good today,” said Rose. “The next few weeks will be intense. It will be a huge challenge for us all, but we’re taking a positive approach to it. We will take it game by game and of course want to be as successful as possible.”

Not present for the first session of the week were the nine players away on international duty: Matthias Ginter, Florian Neuhaus (both Germany), Ramy Bensebaini (Algeria), Marcus Thuram (France), Yann Sommer, Breel Embolo, Michael Lang (all Switzerland), Stefan Lainer (Austria), and Hannes Wolf (Austria U21s). After being sent off for two bookable offences in the Nations League against Spain (1-1), Nico Elvedi has returned from international duty earlier than planned, but has yet to join in on training at BORUSSIA-PARK. After returning from international duty with Austria (3-0 friendly win against Luxembourg), Valentino Lazaro has returned to training in Mönchengladbach. “Now, we’re hoping that all our other internationals also return to us fit and healthy,” said Rose.
