Elvedi voted Borussia’s player of the month for January

Foals fans have voted Nico Elvedi as their Player of the Month for January, presented by Cichon Personalmanagement. The centre-back won the vote ahead of competition from Alassane Plea, Yann Sommer, Lars Stindl and Jonas Hofmann.

The first Player of the Month vote of the new year has seen defender Nico Elvedi pick up the coveted award, presented by Cichon Personalmanagement. The 24-year-old came out on top after a neck-and-neck race against club captain Lars Stindl. Elvedi triumphed with 44% of the vote, while Stindl came a close second with 38%. Behind the two front-runners were Jonas Hofmann (11%), Yann Sommer (5%), and Alassane Plea (2%).

Elvedi impressed with his display in the 4-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund, not only with a strong defensive display but also netting the first brace of his professional career. The Swiss headed in the opener from Jonas Hofmann’s free kick in the 11th minute, before finding himself in the right place at the right time to make it 2-2 on the rebound after BVB keeper Roman Bürki’s initial save. It was no surprise that Elvedi picked up the Man of the Match award following the game, winning 72% of the vote. These were the second and third league goals of the season for the defender after his match-winning strike that secured all three points for the Foals in the 1-0 win against Werder Bremen.
