Andreas Poulsen off to Austria Wien on loan

Andreas Poulsen will spend the remainder of the season on loan at Austrian top-flight club Austria Wien.

The 21-year-old Danish left-back already spent six months on loan with the Viennese club during the 2019/20 season. During this spell, Poulsen made five Bundesliga appearances and featured in the Europa League playoff game before sustaining a season-ending injury.

His contract with Borussia is valid until 2023. "It is important both for us and Andreas that he gets as much match practice at a good level as possible. With Austria Wien he’s currently got a better chance than with us and we hope that he will get plenty of game time under his belt there," said sporting director Max Eberl.

Poulsen joined Borussia Mönchengladbach from FC Midtjylland in July 2018 and made his debut straight away as the Foals beat BSC Hastedt 11-1 in the first round of that season’s DFB-Pokal. The left-back went on to make 14 Regionalliga appearances for the U23s in 2018/19. Last season, he featured in four Regionalliga games before being loaned out to Austria Wien. This season, Poulsen has also been playing for the U23s, making six appearances.
