Match facts ahead of #BMGM05

Everything worth knowing ahead of the Foals’ Bundesliga home game against 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Saturday (15:30 CET).

Spectators:

  • Under the current Coronavirus measures being enforced by the federal and state governments, all professional sporting events must take place behind closed doors.

Head-to-head record:

  • This will be the 30th meeting between the two sides in the Bundesliga. The Foals have the edge, winning 14 of those games, with Mainz recording seven wins (plus 8 draws).
  • Gladbach are currently on a nine-game unbeaten run against Mainz in the Bundesliga (W7, D2), winning each of the last five.
  • The Foals’ last three wins over Mainz have seen Borussia come from behind. In the reverse fixture, Gladbach were 2-1 down but came back to win 3-2.
  • Mainz’s last win over Borussia was over five years ago. Back then, a goal from Christian Clemens sealed a 1-0 home win on 29th January 2016.

Statistics – presented by UNIBET:

  • The 0-0 stalemate in Wolfsburg was Gladbach’s ninth draw of the season – no other Bundesliga side has shared the points more often in 2020/21. By comparison, Borussia had only drawn three games after 21 matchdays last season.
  • Alassane Plea has faced the Zerofivers on five occasions, winning each game. The Frenchman has had a hand in six goals during these matches (3 goals, 3 assists).
  • Both coaches will face their former club on Saturday: Marco Rose played 65 Bundesliga (3 goals) and 85 Bundesliga 2 games (3 goals) for Mainz, while Bo Svensson made his first 32 Bundesliga appearances (2 goals) for the Foals between 2006 and 2007.
  • Svensson has picked up eight points from his first seven games in charge of Mainz, which is more than the Zerofivers managed across the first 14 matchdays of this season (6). Mainz’s seven points from four Rückrunde games is the fifth-highest return in the division.
  • Despite the 2-2 draw last time out in Leverkusen, Mainz’s away form hasn’t been that strong this season. Their only win on the road came at Freiburg on matchday 8 (3-1). The Zerofivers are winless in six away games, although they have recorded three draws during this run.

Officials:

  • The DFB will confirm the officials on the day of the match, due to the Coronavirus measures in place.
