Borussia extend contract with Nico Elvedi

The Foals have extended the contract of centre back Nico Elvedi until June 2024, whose current deal was due to expire at the end of the upcoming season.

The 24-year-old Swiss international signed a new contract at BORUSSIA-PARK on Thursday, which will run until June 2024. "We are very happy about Nico's contract extension," said Borussia sporting director Max Eberl. "He has been a big part and regular in the team for years and, in my opinion is one of the best central defenders in the Bundesliga."

Nico Elvedi joined Borussia from FC Zurich as a 19-year-old in the summer of 2015. In his first season with the Foals, he developed into a regular, initially as a right-back. In the years that followed, he developed into a permanent fixture of the defence, and has occupied the centre-back position for several years.

Overall, Elvedi has played 196 competitive matches for the club so far (162 Bundesliga matches, 13 DFB-Pokal, 16 Champions League, 5 Europa League) for Gladbach, managing to score ten goals. During his time at Borussia, the Zurich-born player also became a Swiss international and so far has 18 caps (one goal) to his name for his country.

Nico Elvedi has been a Foal since 2015.
