“The win is the most important thing” - Schalke match reaction

We gathered the reaction from the Matthias Ginter and the two coaches after Borussia's 3-0 win over FC Schalke 04 on Saturday evening.

Matthias Ginter: The win does us the world of good. We were determined to take all three points today and we worked hard for them from the very first minute. I think we deserved the win, although not everything went seamlessly of course. We gave the ball away too easily in the middle of the park at times and that invited Schalke to create the odd half chance. All in all, I think we showed the clinical edge that was missing in previous games. We worked the ball well in the final third and didn’t give them much at the other end. The win is the most important thing today.

Marco Rose: Today backs up what we saw and said in recent weeks – not everything during this recent run has been bad and the lads have come close to a positive result a few times. We were determined to get the three points today and it wasn’t an easy game, but I think we deserved the win because we were very clinical. The boys will no doubt enjoy this winning feeling and can take it into the international break. After that, we have the chance to kick on straightaway at home against Freiburg. If we want to make a push for Europe, we need to keep winning games and we need to be tough on ourselves; we need be critical about certain things in today’s performance, but we also have to carry that positive momentum forward.

Schalke 04 head coach Dimitrios Grammozis: The result is sobering. As a coach, you always want to win games, even when you're dealing with a tough situation. The long winless run has worn on the lads. However, we still tried to give it our all. It's tough when you give away two easy goals. We had some good periods of play where we were better, and it's exactly in those phases that we conceded. We're unable to deal with those kinds of setbacks at the moment. However, I'm not giving up hope just yet. We covered more ground tonight than usual, which is a positive we can take from the game. We had the chance to take at least a point, but we're lacking that final ball up front at the moment. You also cannot allow yourself to make such mistakes in defence, as they make it extremely difficult to find your way back into the game.
