“We didn’t get going” - Bayern match reaction

We gathered the reaction from Oscar Wendt and the two head coaches after Borussia’s 6-0 defeat to FC Bayern on Saturday evening.

Oscar Wendt: Unfortunately, we just didn’t get going and then that’s what happens against a top side with so many world-class players. We started poorly and were behind very early on. Bayern went for the jugular then. You could sense that having the title confirmed before kick-off had given them a boost and they were determined to get the win. We had a bad day at the office and so simply couldn’t deal with them.

Marco Rose: 6-0 is a clear result, there’s no way around it. We were positive coming into the game and knew that we would need conviction and a high intensity both in defence and attack if we were to take something from Munich. We didn’t have that intensity over the 90 minutes and our conviction dwindled with every goal that Bayern scored. We had a couple of decent counterattacks in the first half hour and looked a threat in their box, but after their second goal, which was almost slapstick, things started to fall apart. Bayern are deserved champions and grew in strength as each goal went in, while we became more and more passive. That results in a final score like we saw today.

FC Bayern head coach Hansi Flick: That was a masterful performance from my team. We won 6-0 against a team who have an enormous amount of quality. I think we were at a very high level out there on the pitch today. We coaches are very proud of the team and the way in which they have showcased themselves over the past 18 months – huge credit to them. FC Bayern München always want to be performing at the optimum level and that’s how the team approach things. Robert Lewandowski scored his 39th goal of the season today which is simply sensational. You could clearly see in this game how the team support one another. Thomas Müller always has eyes for Lewandowski above everyone else.
