Hofmann: "We were nowhere near good enough"

After the 6-0 beating in Munich, midfield man Jonas Hofmann spoke to the press about…

…how the heavy defeat was allowed to happen: We didn’t cope with the opponents as well as we’d planned to. We went 1-0 down very quickly and then conceded the second quite early on as well. When you’re two down in Munich, you need a moment to catch your breath. The opportunities to move the ball forward were there, but nothing really came of them. When you’re 4-0 down at half time away to FC Bayern, there’s no need to beat around the bush – you’re going home empty handed.

…instructions for the second half: Obviously at half time we mentioned that the second half would be about not letting them get too many. We did go out with the intention of scoring a goal or two of our own, to try and make the scoreline a bit more respectable. Despite improving after the restart, we weren’t able to do that.

…what the defeat means for the race for Europe: We’re still fighting to be in Europe, so this defeat has really hit us hard, because we saw in our last game against Bayern that we can do so much better. So we had been hoping to take something from the game in Munich, especially with our rivals in the table dropping points earlier in the day. This could have been our matchday, but we were nowhere near good enough.
