Neuhaus scores for Germany in pre-EUROs friendly

Several Foals were involved in international action for their respective countries on Wednesday evening. Two more warm-up friendlies involving Borussia players ahead of the upcoming European Championship are on the agenda for Thursday evening.

Matthias Ginter and Florian Neuhaus (photo: imago images / Revierfoto) were both in the starting XI for Germany as they drew 1-1 with Denmark, while Jonas Hofmann was on the bench. Germany were in control in the first half but were unable to take their chances, many of which Florian Neuhaus had a hand in creating. Shortly after the break, the 24-year-old was able to break the deadlock as he fired home from six metres out (48’). “Florian had a great game and deserved his goal,” praised Germany coach Joachim Löw after the final whistle. Demark equalised through RB Leipzig’s Yussuf Poulsen in the 71st minute, while Hofmann was brought on just before the end of the match.

Marcus Thuram and France were able to celebrate a commanding 3-0 victory over Wales in their warm-up friendly ahead of the EUROs. Thuram played the full 90 minutes of the win, which came courtesy of goals from Kylian Mbappé, Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembelé. Meanwhile in Middlesbrough, Austria were defeated 1-0 by England. Stefan Lainer started the match and was taken off ten minutes before the end. Valentino Lazaro would have been subject to a quarantine period in the UK after a visit to Dubai and therefore did not travel for the friendly. Bukayo Saka scored the decisive goal in the 56th minute.

Switzerland and Algeria both in action on Thursday evening

Switzerland play their second and final warm-up friendly at 18:00 CEST on Thursday evening, with Yann Sommer, Nico Elvedi, Denis Zakaria and Breel Embolo in the squad. The Swiss take on Liechtenstein in St. Gallen. Meanwhile, Ramy Bensebaini is also in action for Algeria later on at 21:45 CEST, as they face Mauritania in the Algerian city of Blida at the Stade Mustapha Tchaker.

Conor Noß started Ireland U21s friendly against the Australian Olympic team in Marbella, Spain on Wednesday night, while Jacob Italiano was not included in the matchday squad.
