Stindl is Borussia's Player of the Season

Borussia fans have named Lars Stindl as Player of the Season for the second time in his Gladbach career. Our skipper came out on top in the vote, presented by “Cichon Personalmanagement”, ahead of Patrick Herrmann, Jonas Hofmann, Florian Neuhaus, Nico Elvedi, Ramy Bensebaini, Tobias Sippel and Oscar Wendt.

For the second time in his Gladbach career, Lars Stindl has been chosen as our “Player of the Season”. The vote, presented by “Cichon Personalmanagement”, took place via the FohlenApp with 61 percent of fans lending Stindl their support. That was enough to beat out competition from Patrick Herrmann (2%), Jonas Hofmann (8%), Florian Neuhaus (3%), Nico Elvedi (4%), Ramy Bensebaini (5%), Tobias Sippel (2%) and Oscar Wendt (15%).

“Player of the Month” not once but twice

Stindl was named Borussia “Player of the Month” twice during the season just gone. He secured the award in December thanks in no small part to a stunning performance in the 3-3 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt. Our captain gave us the lead with a world-class free-kick before the Eagles completely turned the game around to take a 3-1 advantage. Stindl scored twice in a dramatic end to the game, though, completing his hattrick and ensuring that we went home with a point. First, he converted a high-stakes penalty before a perfect cross from Ibrahima Traoré found him in the box late on. Frankfurt ‘keeper Kevin Trapp was able to save the initial header but Stindl persevered and nodded the ball home at the second attempt.

Stindl soon picked up his second monthly gong, also receiving the honour in February. Even though we were unable to win a game during a tough month, Stindl still provided some reason for joy. He played his 200th competitive game in Gladbach colours during the matchday 22 defeat to 1. FSV Mainz 05 (2-1). It was the first of two big milestones for Stindl this season; he also scored his 50th Bundesliga goal on the final day of the season in Bremen.

Foals’ top scorer

Stindl had an outstanding season on the whole, finishing top of the Borussia scoring charts with 14 Bundesliga goals while also notching ten assists, a personal record for the 32-year-old. In all competitions, he totalled 17 goals and 14 assists. He also acted as the team leader once again, directing games and guiding his teammates through the season.
