Borussia’s Swiss quartet looking for a win against Italy

With Yann Sommer, Nico Elvedi, Denis Zakaria and Breel Embolo in the squad, Switzerland kick off their second match of UEFA EURO 2020 on Wednesday evening as they take on Italy in Rome (21:00 CEST).

Italy are unbeaten in 28 games following 23 victories and five draws, and have not conceded a goal in their last 875 minutes of play. The first round of matches at the tournament saw the European champions of 1968 comfortably overcome Turkey 3-0.

Meanwhile, Switzerland drew their first match of the EUROs 1-1 against Wales with Yann Sommer, Nico Elvedi and Breel Embolo all included in the starting XI. It was Embolo who brought the Swiss side into the lead and was awarded the ‘Star of the Match’ award by UEFA after the final whistle. Denis Zakaria was substituted on in the second half of the match and is expecting a more difficult game in Rome: “It will be a tougher test than against Wales.” Despite the Italians’ quality, Zakaria continued, “We are also a good team and we have enough to cause them problems.” If Switzerland can be “very focused and efficient” in their play, then they have a chance according to the 24-year-old. The Swiss national team round off the group stages of the European Championship against Turkey in Baku on Sunday (18:00 CEST).
