27 Foals off to training camp

The Foals are off to Harsewinkel-Marienfeld for their week-long training camp at the Klosterpforte hotel complex with a squad of three goalkeepers and 24 outfield players onboard.

The trip was originally planned for Lake Tegernsee, in Rottach-Egern, where Borussia spent every summer training camp from 2012 to 2019. But for the second year in a row, it will not be possible for the team to stay at the Althoff lake hotel due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. For this reason, the club decided to return to the Klosterpforte hotel in Harsewinkel-Marienfeld, where they spent the 2020 summer training camp. "We know the hotel from last year and the facilities are superb. The pitch is right on our doorstep, the rooms are good, the food’s good, everything is perfect," said Patrick Herrmann.

27 players in total will make the journey to Borussia’s one-week training camp. Alongside three goalkeepers: Tobias Sippel, Jan Olschowsky and Jonas Kersken and all the outfield players who have already been taking part in pre-season training, there will be two additions from the U23s in Michel Lieder and Michael Wentzel. László Bénes (on Sunday) and Stefan Lainer (on Tuesday) will then join the squad. The Foals who were in action for Switzerland, Germany and France, on the other hand, will not join the team until after the training camp has been concluded.

Just like last year, hygiene regulations and corona specifications will be strictly followed, so all training sessions will take place without spectators. There will be no friendlies played during the training camp, but on the way, the Foals will stop off at the Benteler-Arena to take on SC Paderborn tomorrow (Saturday, 15:00 CEST kick-off). Immediately after returning from the camp a week later (24 July), Borussia will take on French top-flight side FC Metz on the FohlenPlatz in Mönchengladbach.
