Bénes and pair of U19s involved as training camp begins

The Foals have begun their training camp at Klosterpforte in Harsewinkel-Marienfeld. The first training session took place on Sunday morning. Out on the pitch was László Bénes, as well as two U19 players who stood out for their performances against SC Paderborn.

The plan had been clear for Moustafa Moustafa and Yvandro Borges Sanches: join in with the first team during the friendly against Paderborn and then part ways with the senior side. The two 17-year-olds can thank their performances in that friendly for the sudden change of plans. Moustafa and Borges Sanches looked convincing with some nice moments and a free-spirited attitude in their 21 minutes of action in the 3-1 loss.

“I want the young players to show courage,” said head coach Adi Hütter after the game. He praised goalscorer Conor Noß as well as Borges Sanches: “I’ve been really pleased with him since he arrived.” As a reward, the two young talents will get to take part in the Harsewinkel-Marienfeld training camp, which got underway with a session on Sunday morning.

Bénes returns, Lanier to arrive on Tuesday

Those who played around 70 minutes on Saturday were taken through a recovery session. Christoph Kramer, taken off after 54 minutes of the game with circulatory problems, also joined in. For the remaining players there was some intense work on smaller pitches followed by shooting practice. László Bénes was back on the pitch for the first time. The 23-year-old, who was loaned out to FC Augsburg last season, is the first EURO 2020 participant to return to training having featured at the tournament for Slovakia this summer. Stefan Lainer will be the next returnee when he joins the team on Tuesday.

Hütter wants to work on tactics and physicality

Michael Lang, meanwhile, said goodbye to his teammates and coaches at Klosterpforte on Sunday. He left camp to pursue a change of club, leaving Hütter with 27 available players, rising to 28 on Tuesday. The coach wants to take advantage of the situation as best he can. “We’ve often worked with just 16 or 17 players of late. Now it’s our aim to be able to play 10 vs. 10 as well, so that we can work better on the tactical side of things as a team,” said the new boss. “We will definitely need to keep working on the physical side so that we become more energetic, more nimble.”

The Foals had Sunday afternoon off before they start the week with double sessions on Monday and Tuesday.

Yvandro Borges Sanches' dribbling ability was on display against Paderborn.
Borges Sanches will be joined by Moustafa Moustafa in Klosterpforte.
