Ten Foals called up for international duty

The first international break of the new season is coming up, and ten Foals have been selected to represent their nation.

Germany

Jonas Hofmann and Florian Neuhaus (photo: imago images / Revierfoto) have been called up to the German national team. New Germany head coach Hansi Flick has selected the pair for the three upcoming qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Germany will face Liechtenstein, Armenia and Iceland in qualifying Group J during the break.

  • Sunday 5th September (20:45 CEST, in Stuttgart): Germany vs. Armenia (WC qualifier)
  • Wednesday 8th September (20:45 CEST, in Reykjavik): Iceland vs. Germany (WC qualifier)

Switzerland

Four Foals have been selected for the Swiss national team: Yann Sommer, Nico Elvedi, Denis Zakaria and Breel Embolo. Switzerland are in World Cup qualifying Group C and have games against Italy and Northern Ireland during the break. They are also playing an international friendly vs. Greece.

Slovakia

László Bénes has been selected for the Slovakian national team, who are part of Group H and have three World Cup qualifiers in the space of seven days, against Slovenia, Croatia and Cyprus.

  • Saturday 4th September (20:45 CEST, in Bratislava): Slovakia vs. Croatia (WC qualifier)

Algeria

Ramy Bensebaini has been called up to the Algerian national team as the North African side attempt to qualify for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations. The current defending champions are playing in the second qualifying stage vs. Djibouti and Burkina Faso.

Ireland U21s

Conor Noß has been called up to the Ireland U21s squad for their away matches against Luxembourg and Bosnia-Herzegovina as part of their qualification for the 2023 U21 European Championship in Romania and Georgia gets underway.

  • Friday 3rd September (16:30 CEST, in Zenica): Bosnia-Herzegovina U21 vs. (U21 EURO qualifier)
  • Tuesday 7th September (16:00 CEST, in Düdelingen): Luxembourg U21 vs. Ireland U21 (U21 EURO qualifier)

Germany U19s

Luca Netz has been selected for the Germany U19s squad. The 18-year-old has been called up by head coach Hannes Wolf for the two international friendlies against Switzerland and England.

Tony Jantschke to retire from professional football
