Match facts ahead of #FCUBMG

Everything you need to know ahead of the Foals' Bundesliga trip to Union Berlin (Sunday, 15:30 CEST).

Spectators

  • Just like in their first home game of the season, Union Berlin have been permitted to welcome 11,006 spectators to the stadium. Aside from the standard hygiene regulations, all spectators must be able to provide a negative test result for, proof of recovery from, or full vaccination against coronavirus.
  • Away fans will also be permitted to attend the game at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei for the first time. A total of 1,190 Borussia fans will travel to support their team in Berlin.

Head-to-head record

  • This is only the fifth Bundesliga encounter between Borussia and Union Berlin. The record so far is in the balance with one win each and two draws.
  • The Foals lost their first away game to the ‘Irons’ 2-0. Last season, Alassane Plea scored in a 1-1 draw.
  • The first ever competitive encounter between the two sides dates back to 6th February 2001 in the DFB-Pokal. Regionalliga side Union Berlin beat our then-second-division side on penalties to reach the final of the competition.

  • Just like last season, Borussia Mönchengladbach have picked up one point from the first two games of the Bundesliga season. In 2020/21, the Foals followed up on a 3-0 defeat in Dortmund with a draw against Union Berlin. In their third game, they beat 1. FC Köln 3-1 for the first win of the campaign.

  • Last season, Union Berlin drew a grand total of 14 games. This season, they already have two draws from two games.
  • Union are unbeaten in 17 home games in the Bundesliga (eight wins, nine draws), with only Bayern (28 games) and Frankfurt (20 games) boasting longer such runs.
  • Taiwo Awoniyi is currently in top form. The Nigerian forward has scored in both Bundesliga games so far and added a brace in the Conference League playoff first leg.
