DFB-Pokal: Borussia to host Bayern in mid-week

The German Football Association (DFB) has today confirmed the timings for the second round of matches in the DFB-Pokal. Borussia will host FC Bayern München on Wednesday, 27th October (20:45 CEST).

Two-time canoeing Olympic champion Ronald Rauhe conducted the second-round draw on Sunday evening (29th Sept.). Borussia were drawn against the record champions from Bavaria, and will host Bayern on Wednesday, 27th October (20:45 CEST). Information about tickets will be provided by the club at a later date.

The second round matches will take place on 26th and 27th October. The round of 16 has been scheduled for 18th and 19th January 2022, with the quarterfinals on 1st and 2nd March. The semi-finals will be played on 19th and 20th April, with the final set to take place at the Olympiastadion in Berlin on 21st May.

Eighth cup meeting between the sides

The two sides are meeting for the eighth time in the cup. The first of these eight games took place in the final in 1983/84, with Bayern winning on penalties (1-1 a.e.t., 7-6 on pens.). The two then met again in the semi-finals the following season, with FCB winning 1-0 a.e.t. In 1987/88, Borussia and Bayern squared off in the second round. The first leg ended in a 2-2 draw at the Bökelberg, with Bayern winning the second leg 3-2 a.e.t. Bayern also knocked out the Foals in the second round in 1996/97 (2-1 in Gladbach), as well as in 2007/08 (3-1 in Munich). The most recent cup tie between the sides in 2011/12 went to penalties after a goalless 120 minutes, with Bayern winning 4-2.
