Scally voted Borussia’s Player of the Month for August

Borussia fans have voted Joe Scally as their Player of the Month for August. The centre-back finished ahead of Yann Sommer, Stefan Lainer, Lars Stindl and Jonas Hofmann in the voting, presented by Cichon Personalmanagement.

Scally finished first with 55 per cent of the vote, ahead of Yann Sommer (24%), Stefan Lainer (12%), Lars Stindl (6%) and Jonas Hofmann (3%).

The 18-year-old American made his competitive debut for the Foals during the first-round DFB-Pokal game against Kaiserslautern, and also went to play the full 90 minutes in all three Bundesliga matches so far this season. He impressed on each of his appearances, proving his versatility as he featured at both left and right back.

Scally started at left-back against Kaiserslautern and FC Bayern, keeping speedy wingers such as Jean Zimmer, Leroy Sané and Kingsley Coman well in check. Following Stefan Lainer’s injury, Scally stepped in to replace him at right-back against Leverkusen and Union Berlin. Against Union, he showcased his attacking instincts, as he came within inches of finding the back of the net in the second half.

The voting criteria for our Player of the Month award has changed this season. In previous years, fans were only able to select players that had won at least one Man of the Match award during the preceding month. This season, fans will have the option of also voting for players that impressed during the previous month, either with their performances or through other actions.
