Stindl: “We need to work together to get through this situation”

Borussia’s captain Lars Stindl spoke to the media following the 1-0 defeat away to FC Augsburg. Stindl spoke about...

... reasons for the loss in Augsburg: We had a lot of possession and progressed the ball well, usually from the wings, but were simply not good enough in the final third. We didn’t play well in the box, didn’t make any deep runs and had no ideas on how to show off our threat. The game was pretty similar to the one three weeks ago at Union Berlin. It showed that we need to work hard on the little things like playing the right pass or making the right decision. What we shouldn’t allow is a game like this one to end in us losing. Every point is important now.

... the start to the season, with four points from five games: We didn’t think it would go like this. We’ve had a difficult start to the season because we’ve had a new coaching staff but despite this we hoped for more points. After beating Bielefeld last week we thought we had had a decent start, but now we’ve had this setback in Augsburg because we weren’t able to get a point of the game.

... the game-plan of the new coaching staff: Of course the coach and the team have to get to know each other at first, but we’ve worked together for long enough now that we should’ve got past that phase. Every coach has his own approach and Adi Hütter has tried to get it through to us in every training session. He combines the fast switching game that we used under the previous head coach with the possession game which we all know already at Borussia. At times it works well, but there are other occasions where we find it difficult and don’t set ourselves up well enough

... the upcoming weeks: We know we gave quality in the team, but we need to show it on the pitch and turn it into points. We’re aware of our situation and always exchange our ideas for improvement after games, no matter if we win or lose them. The squad always discusses things clearly if there are problems that we need to get rid off to be successful. Our goal has to be to put 100% effort into our training sessions during the week, so that we can do our best on the weekend too. We need to work together to get through this situation.
