Hofmann: “We did really well on the whole”

After scoring a brace in the 4-0 win over SpVgg Greuther Fürth, Jonas Hofmann was a man in demand with the media. We collected the pick of the quotes. Jonas Hofmann on...

…the performance against Fürth: From the beginning we set up as we had planned. We played good football, were aggressive in the challenges, had lots of possession and took up good positions. We played with purpose on the front foot. We just did really well on the whole. The three points are not to be taken lightly and in my opinion the win was thoroughly deserved.

…taking the lead in the eighth minute: An early 1-0 lead in a game like this, just after the international break, takes a load off right away. After that things get easier against an opponent that sits deep. Lars played the pass at the perfect moment, right as I was picking up speed. My first touch was really good, meaning that I could take the ball inside and into a better shooting position. It was a nice goal but the other three goals were all worthy of the highlights reel as well.

...soldiering on through the first half: I got caught more than I’d have liked during the first half. I had big scratches down the inside of both ankles. I got some treatment at half-time, putting ice packs on them, and then we were off again. I didn't want to be taken off because of a few scratches - I was still hungry to score a second goal! (laughs)

…on a new personal goals record: I am happy that things are going so well for me personally and that I can help the team out in that regard. I've already broken my own record goals tally for a season and we're only about a third of the way through. There's still time to add more goals. I wouldn't mind being the club’s top scorer come the end of the season (grins). But for me it's far more important for the team to be successful, and for other players to score lots of goals too.

...the Foals’ variations in attack: Of course there are responsibilities that we have to stick to, but the coach lets us have a certain freedom too. We aim to be flexible in attack and to not always take up the same positions. We don't want to always have the same set-up on the pitch, a system that the opposition can prepare for, and that is something that we are really aware of. Instead we want to always pose a new challenge by switching up our positions.

…the upcoming derby: I got goosebumps when the first songs about the derby started up towards the end of the game. We are well aware of what the game means. For us, and especially for all of our fans, it is a huge game. Our aim is to take three points home from Köln and we will give everything to do that

Jonas Hofmann scores to make it 4-0.
