Yann Sommer is Borussia’s Player of the Month for December

Borussia’s Player of the Month for December is Yann Sommer. The Swiss goalkeeper automatically won the award presented by Cichon Personalmanagement.

It definitely wasn’t a good month for the Foals. After ending November with a 4-1 defeat in the derby at 1. FC Köln, December began with three straight defeats to Freiburg (6-0 H), RB Leipzig (4-1 A) and Eintracht Frankfurt (3-2 H). The final game before the turn of the year saw the Foals draw 1-1 away at TSG Hoffenheim.

Yann Sommer was voted by the fans as Man of the Match via the Fohlen-App for all four of these games. The Swiss goalkeeper prevented his side from conceding even more goals, and played a massive role in the team coming away from Sinsheim last time out with a point.

In December, Sommer also broke Oscar Wendt’s record for the most appearances for Borussia for a foreign player. He has now featured 307 times in all competitions for the club. As a result of these reasons, there was no vote for this month’s Player of the Month and Sommer was automatically awarded with the title.
