Beyer and Thuram back in team training

Jordan Beyer and Marcus Thuram returned to team training, as preparations began today for Friday’s match against FC Bayern München (20:30 CET).

The focus during the 90-minute-long session was on various running drills. “Our running has been an issue for us, and one that we addressed over the winter break, because too often it has been the case that we are stuck in our own half,” said head coach Adi Hütter. However, he added that this isn’t the only factor that explains why Borussia are currently in the bottom half of the table. “It also comes down to us not defending well in our last few games and not keeping our shape. We must also improve in these areas,” said Hütter.

Thuram and Beyer are back

Hütter has been able to welcome a few more players back to training in recent days. Marcus Thuram is back in team training after recovering from a cold, and was joined today by Jordan Beyer (thigh muscle injury & Covid-19). Jonas Hofmann (knee surgery) completed a running session on the pitch. Denis Zakaria, Joe Scally, Mamadou Doucouré and Keanan Bennetts are all still self-isolating after testing positive for Covid-19. “Maybe one or the other will return soon. But, we can’t say for sure because it also depends on the health authority. They won’t be able to leave quarantine until their CT values are low enough,” said Hütter. Ramy Bensebaini will be away on international duty, as he takes part in the Africa Cup of Nations from 9th January to 6th February in Cameroon.

Four more sessions

The Foals will take part in four more training sessions before Friday’s match at FC Bayern (20:30 CET). They will have two sessions behind closed doors on Tuesday, with Wednesday’s session starting at 10:30 CET. The final training session on Thursday will also be behind closed doors. “Likely the toughest away game of the season” awaits at the Allianz Arena, said Hütter, as he looked ahead to the meeting with the record champions. “We are heading there are the underdogs, but we still need to play with courage and confidence. Bayern are very strong, but they do allow their opponents chances, which we want to take advantage of.”

After a spell with injury, Jordan Beyer has returned to team training.
