Match facts ahead of #H96BMG

Everything to know ahead of the DFB-Pokal round of 16 clash at second-division Hannover 96 on Wednesday evening (18:30 CET).

Spectators:

  • Due to the current Coronavirus rules in Lower Saxony, only 500 spectators will be permitted to attend the cup game between Hannover 96 and Borussia at the HDI Arena (Photo: DFL/Lukas Schulze). Hannover have allocated these tickets to meeting their contractual obligations to partners and sponsors, meaning that no tickets have been made available to the public.

Head-to-head record:

  • This will be the sixth DFB-Pokal meeting between the two sides. The Foals have a slight edge, having won three times (3-1 in the round of 16 in 1970, 1-0 in the quarterfinals in 1984, and 3-0 in the first round in 1989). Hannover have won both the last two cup encounters against Borussia, which both went to penalties: in the final of the 1991/92 season (0-0 a.e.t., 4-3 on pens.) and in the first round in 1997/98 (1-1 a.e.t., 5-3 on pens.).
  • The two sides have faced each other 56 times in the Bundesliga, along with nine draws and 16 defeats for Borussia in Bundesliga 2.

Statistics:

  • Borussia have won the DFB-Pokal on three occasions, most recently in 1995. They have reached the final on a further two occasions. Hannover have won the DFB-Pokal once, in 1992 (vs. Borussia).
  • Last season, the Foals were knocked out in the round of 16 after a 1-0 loss to Borussia Dortmund. Hannover were knocked out in the second round, losing 3-0 to SV Werder Bremen.
  • In 2021/22, Borussia got through the first round with a 1-0 win at Kaiserslautern, followed by a 5-0 thrashing of record champions Bayern München in the second round.
  • Hannover 96 recorded a 4-0 win against Regionalliga side Eintracht Norderstedt in the first round, before beaten Fortuna Düsseldorf 3-0 in the next round.
  • Borussia captain Lars Stindl spent 2010 to 2015 at Hannover, and will now come up against his former club. With eight goals in 18 cup games, Stindl is Borussia’s top goalscorer in the DFB-Pokal out of the current squad. He scored three cup goals during his time in Hannover.
