“We made the wrong decision at the wrong time too often” - #H96BMG reaction

We heard the reaction from Lars Stindl and the two coaches following Borussia’s 3-0 DFB-Pokal last-16 defeat to Hannover 96 on Wednesday evening.

Lars Stindl: It’s hard to put the game into words. The cup was a huge opportunity for us to achieve something special. We spoke about that before the game, and then we go and put in a performance like that. I don’t get it. We didn’t start well at all. Hannover worked the ball out of the back and we pressed them down individually, but we didn’t have any intensity in our play and didn’t get stuck in to the challenges. When Hannover played long balls, we were just left chasing it. We made a number of bad decisions on an individual level leading up to their goals.

Adi Hütter: We’re incredibly disappointed about how we performed today. We had pictured things very differently. It wasn’t the start we were after of course, going behind after four minutes with Hannover’s first chance. Florian Neuhaus then had a great chance to equalise before they made it 2-0. I think you can give the penalty. We made a number of changes, but we didn’t have the right solutions, not least because Hannover did a good job too. We made the wrong decision at the wrong time too often. We lost a lot of important challenges and were often too slow on the ball. Those were the reasons that we were unable to score a goal today, which is very frustrating.

Hannover 96 head coach Christoph Dabrowski: I’m very happy with the result and particularly the way my team performed. I think we deserved the win. It was an exciting cup match. The lads brought power onto the pitch and tried to push forward. We allowed Gladbach the odd chance, but we had Ron-Robert Zieler in goal, who did brilliantly to keep a clean sheet. I’m absolutely delighted with how the lads played. I don’t want to pick out a single player, but rather praise the team performance. They worked well together today, one cog pushing the other.
