“We cannot allow that to happen” – #BVBBMG reaction

We heard the reaction from Jonas Hofmann and the two coaches following Borussia’s 6-0 defeat in Dortmund on Sunday evening.

Jonas Hofmann: We had three huge chances in the first half which and we ought to have stuck one or two of them away. Then we let the game get away from us. We cannot allow a second half like that to happen. We didn’t step up to the plate today and that’s what it comes down to. It’s hard to take any positives. We have to move on from the game as quickly as possible and clear our minds of it. The next matches will be incredibly important. We’re playing against direct rivals in the table and simply have to pick up points again.

Adi Hütter: As clear cut as the result sounds, I thought that it was a fairly even game up until the 70th minute. We had some good chances, but we just couldn’t get the goal. You have Jonas Hofmann hitting the bar and the ball bouncing out at one end, then at the other end, Marius Wolf’s shot clips the bar and goes in. Moments like that made the difference in the end. We fell apart after their third goal, which is unacceptable. We put in a good showing in Bielefeld the other week and were very well disciplined tactically against Augsburg last time out. A defeat like today is obviously a real setback.

Dortmund head coach Marco Rose: I’m happy with the performance of my team. I don’t think there’s all that much that I need to say. We gave the game direction. We needed our goalkeeper a couple of times after we had taken the lead, and were lucky with Hofmann’s shot that hit the bar. We earned that luck though. It was a quite a hard fought match early on, but we were on top both defensively and in attack in the deciding moments.
