Yann Sommer, Alassane Plea and Florian Neuhaus have been nominated for Borussia’s Player of the Month award for February, presented by Cichon Personalmanagement. Voting for the award is open and fans can choose their favourite in the FohlenApp.
Yann Sommer, Alassane Plea or Florian Neuhaus: Who is your Player of the Month for February? The Foals played four league fixtures over the course of the month, drawing 1-1 in Bielefeld and defeating FC Augsburg 3-2 before a 6-0 loss in Dortmund and the recent 2-2 draw against Wolfsburg.
Both Yann Sommer and Alassane Plea picked up two “Man of the Match” awards in Feburary, which automatically puts them in the running for Player of the Month, presented by Cichon Personalmanagement. Florian Neuhaus has been named as the third nominee due to his good performances in the last four weeks.
Yann Sommer was named “Man of the Match” in the 1-1 draw against Bielefeld, his 250th Bundesliga match and a game in which he proved just how important a player he is, making three huge saves at 1-1 to prevent Gladbach from going behind once again. He kept out a Ramos header with a great reflex save, before winning a one-on-one battle against Kunze in the 53rd minute and punching away Medina’s effort just 13 minutes later. Sommer didn’t have much of a chance for any of Dortmund’s six goals, and he was also voted “Man of the Match” in this game.
Alassane Plea has been in good form in February, scoring two goals and registering two assists. He scored an important equaliser against Bielefeld, and converted Manu Koné’s cross to make it 1-0 against Augsburg. He was named Gladbach’s “Man of the Match” as we eventually won 3-2 against FCA, and the Frenchman went on to provide two assists against Wolfsburg. He set up both Marcus Thuram’s and Breel Embolo’s goals with two precise passes, which once again saw him voted as “Man of the Match”. “Alassane Plea has been in good form for several weeks now. He works and fights unbelievably hard for the team. The two assists he got are testament to his good run of form,” Adi Hütter had plenty of praise for the attacker.
Florian Neuhaus has played every minute for Gladbach in February, and he put in a spectacular cross for Ramy Bensebaini to turn home in the 3-2 win vs. Augsburg whilst also playing a very present and important role in defensive midfield. “When I see how much ground he’s covering and how he throws himself into challenges at the minute, he shows just how comfortable he is playing in defensive midfield when and if we need him to,” commented Adi Hutter.
